A Fish Fry Float will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Strasburg Town Park.

Sponsored by the Town of Strasburg and the Friends of North Fork, the event will feature free kayak and tube floats, live entertainment, and kids activities.

Olivia Hilton, the marketing and events coordinator for the Town of Strasburg, said Strasburg wanted to offer a family friendly experience for Father’s Day because it’s typically a holiday that’s overlooked.

“When creating the event, I thought of all of the summer things I enjoy doing with my own dad; fishing, floating, listening to music, and eating watermelon,” she said. “The event bloomed from there.”

Hilton said that the Town of Strasburg began a partnership with the Friends of the North Fork, whose primary program areas are education, science, and advocacy. This is the second year for the event.

“One purpose of the event is to educate guests on the Shenandoah River and encourage respect of the wildlife right in our backyard while the other is to offer a free family friendly activity for the Strasburg community,” Hilton said.

Other activities during the event include free workshops on how to make your own marinade, making your own toad and bee houses, and honey tasting. Kids activities include a waterslide bounce house, fishing games and a petting zoo.

There will also be a watermelon eating contest starting at 3 p.m. and a live performance from the Blues Condition Band from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The Skrimp Shack and JP Sno-Cones, and brew gardens from Box Office Brewery and Siblings Rivalry will be at the event.

Hilton said that over 500 people attended the event last year.
