STRASBURG – The Strasburg Chamber of Commerce will host the 37th Mayfest starting Wednesday.

The festival, which will run through May 19, will feature live musical entertainment, beer and wine gardens, food and craft vendors, and activities for the kids.

Strasburg Mayor and Strasburg Chamber of Commerce President Rich Orndorff Jr. addressed rumors that Mayfest had been canceled this year after he received questions about its status. He said that there may have been some confusion because the event was not put on the Town of Strasburg’s events calendar. Mayfest is on the Chamber of Commerce’s website calendar and the chamber’s Facebook page has been advertising it.

“We wanted to assure people we were still having it,” he said.

Orndorff said there will be two new lunch events for this year’s Mayfest. Box Office Brewery will host “Bros and Brews” and “Pumps and Pints,” which will include lunch, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and live music by Clay Arthur and the Mystic Pistols. The event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17. Tickets for the event are $35 and are limited.

The festival will officially kick-off with Paint Nite at Siblings’ Rivalry Brewery 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Participants will paint two wine glasses or a single shot glass. The event is for adults over 21, and tickets are $35 per person.

Other events will include street dances with live music from The Virginians, Cazhmiere, and The Merge, the parade on King’s Street starting at 4 p.m May 18, and the duck race near the town run from 2-3 p.m. May 19.

Mayfest will also see the return of the carnival sponsored by the Strasburg Lions and the North Shenandoah Ruritan clubs starting Wednesday. The carnival will be held at the town municipal lot located behind the Strasburg Fire Department. The rides and concessions will open at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, and May 17, and at noon May 18.
