A 33-year-old Strasburg motorcyclist was killed Sunday morning on Va. 55 (Strasburg Road) after he collided with a car driven by a Front Royal man charged with driving under the influence of drugs, according to the Virginia State Police.

John L. Cunningham was riding a 2006 Kawasaki motorcycle westbound on Va. 55 about 11:50 a.m. when a 2006 Ford Focus traveling eastbound crossed the center line and hit him head-on about a half mile west of Route 678 (Fort Valley Road), according to Virginia State Police Sgt. Brent Coffey. Cunningham was wearing a helmet, Coffey said.

Charles J. Corathers, 30, of Front Royal, was driving the Focus and was not injured in the crash, Coffey said. Corathers was wearing a seatbelt, Coffey states.

Corathers was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, driving on a revoked license, possession with intent to distribute schedule I/II drugs and possession of paraphernalia, Coffey states.

Corathers was transported to Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail, where he is being held without bond, Coffey states. Corathers is due in Warren County General District Court at 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to online court records.

Virginia State Police’s Culpeper Division Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and is assisting with the investigation. Trooper A. Pike is investigating the crash, Coffey states.
