WOODSTOCK – The Waynesboro woman suspected of participating in a bank robbery in New Market last month appeared in Shenandoah County General District Court on Friday.

Stacey Bevan, 43, was arrested along with George Wood, 50, in Augusta County earlier this month but has been out on bond. Bevan made her first appearance in Shenandoah County court on Friday for a procedural hearing.

Police charged Bevan with conspiring to commit larceny of bank notes and as an accessory to larceny of bank notes. Police have declined to discuss what role they believe Bevan played in the Sonabank robbery on Jan. 23.

Police released still photos of a man suspected to be Wood inside the bank but no photos of Bevan were released.

Friday’s hearing was a formality to introduce Bevan into the Shenandoah County court system and give her an opportunity to apply for a court-appointed attorney to assist her in her defense.

Bevan will appear again in Shenandoah County General District Court for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. May 1.
