More indictments were handed up this week in a murder case involving a Toms Brook man and his stepson.

A Shenandoah County grand jury indicted Todd Anthony Bly, 52, charging him with using a firearm while committing a felony. Bly was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in  August and indicted on a first-degree murder charge in January.

On Aug. 21, Bly and his stepson Phillip Shiflett, 30, allegedly got into an argument about food in the refrigerator, according to evidence provided by the commonwealth in court proceedings. Bly then left the room, went upstairs and came back with a handgun.

Prosecutors said that Bly then shot Shiflett in the chest at point blank range before walking out of the room, putting on his shoes and leaving the house. Bly was arrested without incident the same evening at his mother’s house.

Bly’s new charges will be brought up at his next scheduled court date on March. 13. Bly is set to stand trial for the murder charge on May 26-28.
