Authorities have released the identity of the 51-year-old woman who died in the Wednesday morning fire at the Royal Hills Apartments in Front Royal.

The Warren County Fire Marshal's office along with Front Royal police identified Jennifer Lee Roberts as the victim they found deceased in an apartment, according to a joint news release.

Roberts was the sole occupant of the apartment.

Fire Marshal Gerry Maiatico said the fire department and police are continuing to conduct a joint investigation into the cause of the fire and the manner of death. As such, he declined to provide additional details of the fire.

Investigators have determined that the smoke alarms within the apartment unit where the fire originated were not functional at the time of the fire.

He declined to answer questions about the fire alarms.

“That is still part of the investigation,” Maiatico said.

Maiatico and a police investigator attended the autopsy,  which was conducted Thursday.

He said he did not know when the department might receive the autopsy results.

“But hopefully we can close on this soon,” Maiatico said.

Anyone with information regarding the fire is asked to contract Maiatico at 540-636-3830 or Front Royal Police Detective David Fogle at 540-636-2208.

Fire and Rescue crews will be going door to door in the community where the fire occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday checking smoke alarms and offering alarms to be installed at no cost, according to the release.

Maiatico said anyone needing an alarm can call the Warren County Fire and Rescue at 540-636-3830.
