Warren County Circuit Court handed up several indictments Tuesday with charges involving drugs, theft,  and assault against a law enforcement officer.

The assault against a law officer charge is against Jhon Jairo Lopez, 24, an inmate at the Rappahannock-Shenandoah-Warren Regional Jail.

An officer at the jail went to Lopez’ cell to take property as is the policy for inmates on disciplinary lockdown, according to a criminal complaint.

The officer cuffed Lopez before Lopez began “cussing” at him and threatening to kill him, the complaint states.

After another officer removed Lopez’ property, the initial officer escorted him back to his cell, shut the door and attempted to remove the cuffs from Lopez through a tray slot, the complaint continues.

Lopez raised his body up, smashing the officer’s hand on the top of the tray slot, the complaint states. This happened a second time before the officer was able to remove the handcuffs and leave the area.
