FRONT ROYAL – The Warren County School Board met on Thursday morning and set a timetable to replace Arnold M. Williams Jr., who resigned last week as School Board member chairman.

The School Board unanimously approved a resolution for a writ of election, which will be filed in Warren County Circuit Court. The resolution requests the circuit court to order a special election to replace Williams.

Warren County Public Schools Superintendent Christopher Ballenger said in a phone interview Thursday morning that the election will be held with the other elections on Nov 2.

Williams announced last week he had to resign because he plans to move out of the North River Magisterial District. His four-year term does not expire until Dec. 31, 2023.

The School Board also unanimously approved an advertisement for the hiring of an interim School Board member. Ballenger said the School Board has 45 days to find an interim School Board member who will be on the board until the election can be held.

The advertisement states the School Board is accepting letters of interest for a representative from the North River Election District. Applicants must submit a statement of Interest not to exceed 300 words and a resume to Clerk, Warren County School Board 210 N. Commerce Ave., Front Royal, VA 22630 no later than 4 p.m. on July 16. Anyone interested in the position must be a qualified voter and reside in the North River Election District.

The School Board also unanimously approved holding a special meeting at 6 p.m. on July 19 for the purpose of interviewing and selecting an interim North River District School Board member. Ballenger said they will appoint the new School Board member at the July 19 meeting.

There will be three new School Board members in 2022 as James S. Wells and Vice Chairwoman Catherine R. Bower are not running for reelection.

School Board members Wells, Bower, Ralph A. Rinaldi and Kristen J. Pence attended Thursday's meeting.
