FRONT ROYAL– A West Virginia woman who missed her court appearance on Monday appeared in Warren County Circuit Court on Friday.

Lexy Kerns, 20, was scheduled to appear in court earlier this week following a January indictment charging her with conspiring to commit fraud and obtaining money by false pretenses. Kerns was also indicted on charges of obtaining money by false pretenses by a Frederick County grand jury in April.

Kerns was indicted in Warren County for her alleged participation in a scheme to take a $908 check from the Chantilly Gymnastics Boosters and cash it under another person’s name.

Court documents show that Kerns told another woman, Theresa Doucet, 21, of Strasburg, that she was “working with the bank” where Doucet cashed the check after changing the payee line.

Kerns did not appear on Monday because she was with her grandmother in the hospital, according to her attorney, and she forgot about her hearing.

Kerns appeared on Friday without incident and waived her right to a jury trial, instead requesting a bench trial scheduled for July 2.
