Virginia State Police have charged a Winchester man with last week’s crash that involved a Shenandoah County school bus that had children onboard.

The defendant, identified by Virginia State Police spokesperson Corinne Geller as Charles C. Fauble, 73, was charged with reckless driving.

The crash occurred at 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 27 in the 3200-block of John Marshall Highway. Geller said Fauble was driving a 2012 GMC Canyon that rear-ended the bus. Fauble came out of a curve and struck the back of the school bus whose driver had just begun picking up students on her route, Superintendent Mark Johnston previously said.

Fauble apparently was blinded by the sun as the trooper’s report noted that the sun was a factor in the crash, Geller said.

Fauble, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported from the scene to a nearby hospital for minor injuries, Geller said.

No one on the bus was hurt.

The release of the information was delayed until the trooper returned to work and filed his report on the crash.
