A Craigslist transaction went the wrong way last week in Front Royal. Police there reported that a person responding to an ad for an iPhone for sale was robbed at gunpoint during the transaction. Luckily, the victim was unharmed and the suspect was apprehended.
Craigslist addresses the issue of personal safety with some common sense tips on its website, including meet the seller or buyer in a public place, don’t allow anyone into your home, and trust your instincts.
The Winchester Police recently went a step further to protect citizens who are buying and selling items on Craigslist by welcoming them to the Timbrook Public Safety Center parking lot or lobby to conduct transactions.
This is such a great idea that we encourage Shenandoah and Warren county sheriff’s offices as well as area town police departments to make it known that buyer-seller transactions are welcome in their lobbies and parking lots.
We can’t think of a better place to arrange such a meeting than at a police station.
