Tuesday’s announcement that Andros Foods North America is planning a $73 million expansion that will, over the course of three years, bring 160 new jobs to its facility in Mount Jackson is fantastic news.
On the same day of that announcement there was a groundbreaking for a new $17.5 million state of the art emergency room and medical office building at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital.
Another positive step forward occurred in March, when Route 11 Potato Chips announced that it would be doubling its production line and adding 13 new jobs at the Mount Jackson plant.
Looking ahead, a proposed mega site in the Mount Jackson area would result in attracting a new industry and possibly many more jobs to the county. The town last week approved a rezoning request that’s the first phase of a plan that would open up over 700 acres for industrial use. There’s much more that needs to be considered and approved before this happens, but Shenandoah County needs more and better-paying jobs. Moving ahead with this plan is a positive step forward for the county’s residents and established businesses.
